It's true...Jenn made it out of Kansas.

Ha. I just noticed Hugh's blog and I'm sorry for such a belated update!

I had no problems getting back to 'bama...which honestly, I wouldn't have minded stalling that a little longer.

It was great to meet everyone in Kansas and I had a great time at the workshop. I've already been getting on the Air Force's nerves, telling them how the Army does it. They love it when I say things like that I'm sure.

More blog posts related to the workshop are coming soon, once I finally get my head back straight.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Back to the grind stone

I'm back at work now, snuggled comfortably behind my desk. I got eight hours of sleep last night.
Yeah, life is normal again. It'll take awhile to get used to.
The MilJo Workshop was a great experience that really pumped me up and got me even more excited about my job. They (the editors) haven't yet decided whether to make me the military reporter (seems there are others with interest in that), but I'm sure I'll at least be keeping up with the Coast Guard in our area now. And, now, I feel prepared to do that.
I think we had an awesome group of people and I'd like to keep in touch with all of you.
Thanks to KU, CGSC, Ft. Leonard Wood, the McCormick Foundation and especially Tom. He kept us organized, on schedule and, despite a rifle butt stroke to the chin, managed not to lose a single journalist. Not for long, anyway.
This meant a lot to me and to our entire newsroom. With budgets like they are, a free trip sometimes means the difference between training and no training at all.
Hooah!

Greetings from Virginia

Fellow Miljo-ers:

I hope you all made it home safely. (I know Jenn did, so that's progress.) It was great fun being with all of you last week and I hope we can keep in touch and share ideas.

I'll try to post some of my photos when I have time. Looking through them, it's hard to believe I'm now back sitting at a desk.

Thanks so much to Toni for putting together this blog.

Workshop Feedback

Thank you all so much for making this workshop a success. We have gotten lots of positive comments from the folks at Fort Leavenworth. Please send Tom and I your feedback about how we can improve the workshop.

Greetings, folks!

Trust you all made it home this weekend and got plenty of rest. I made it home, but with a Boy Scout camp out, didn't get much rest. But my son and I had a lot of fun, though it was a soggy Friday night. We stayed dry and had tons of fun.

Speaking of fun, it was a tremendous opportunity to be with you all and share views on journalism and working with the military. I may be contacting you soon for thoughts that I want to include in an upcoming article following up on a Combat Studies Institute symposium on military-media relations.

If there is ever anything I can do for you all, give me a shout. Would love to stay in touch with this great group.

Rock Chalk and hooah!

THANK YOU!

Hi All,

Just wanted to take a moment and thank the KU staff, Army Staff and the McCormick Foundation for the opportunity to attend the MilJo Workshop this past week. I learned a lot that will help me cover military issues but as important was the chance to meet so many quality journalists from around the country! I had a great time getting to know each of you and I hope our paths cross again. Truly, if you find yourself in Virginia, I hope you'll stop for a visit.

I've posted my photos in a Picasa web album--feel free to use them with attribution. If you'd like to post your own photos for the group to admire, I'm sending a separate invite to each of you with the directions.

Take care!

Fair winds and following seas,

Toni

Greetings from Kansas University

Hi, All,

Thank you for participating in MilJo 2009.

Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from all concerned - journalists and officers.

I'll send out "Missive #4" early this week. If you want to send a note to McCormick, I'll include Mr. Clark Bell's address then.

Truly enjoyed being with you all.

And thanks to Toni for putting this blog together!!
